I've got a question for you...

It was when I first began ministering in the gay community that I ran into initials. You know, LGBT, etc. I was saddened that we were not only being reduced to labels but initials of labels. Of course I understand the need to identify and be identified as part of some group or culture (and I mean no disrespect) but my life experience has taught me that we are all extremely complicate and that one label may not suffice-let alone an initial.

Now that the acronym has grown to LGBTQQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Allies), I remember my discovery of the Q that meant questioning. Had we as a society become so label-dependant that a person (usually a teen) couldn’t feel their way and grow through sexual angst toward self-discovery without having to be pigeonholed into a temporary identity state?

I admire the teens and adults alike who admit to being in the questioning state and I’m grateful that there are support groups for everybody. I just, again and again, challenge the need for labels and am curious about the label-makers. Who are they? Who do they represent? What is their purpose? Or agenda? Motive? Only God truly knows our motives and reveals them to us at His pleasing.

Puck rock icon, Exene Cervenka once said, “ As long as we are saying the phrase, ‘Women In Rock”,  women in rock still have a long way to go.

Think about it.

We are all questioning. Or we should be.  Are we not called to take every thought, idea, dream, impulse, desire, plan etc. into captivity and present them to the Lord? Paper or plastic? Give me moment while I ask my Heavenly Father.  Sound extreme? Read your Bible!  Nothing is supposed to pass our lips (going in or out) without His blessing. Same goes for our minds, hearts and ________.

As far as questioning. Don’t we spend more time questioning (challenging, qualifying, judging) others than we do ourselves. How about that “all things to all people” stuff?  I LOVE IT!

Paisley and  Jesus, at any given time: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer

Jesus: ALWAYS an ally

Paisley:  (Hopefully) always questioning.
